WERRINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB

CODE OF CONDUCT

 

 

  1. 1. INTRODUCTION
  • The code of conduct set out below applies to all representatives of Werrington Football Club including players, coaches, officials, spectators & parents or  guardians of players.
  • Werrington Football Club is a community based club that believes in the spirit of fair play & a fair go for all. Werrington believes that everyone has a right to enjoy their participation in the world game. Everyone is to be respected & treated fairly at all times without discrimination of any sort.
  • Anyone who fails to abide by club code of conduct will have to appear before club disciplinary committee & depending upon the circumstances can be fined, suspended or expelled from the club.
  • Club disciplinary committee consists of club president & 2 committee members.
  1. 2. PLAYERS
  • Play by the rules & participate for your own benefit & enjoyment.
  • Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official at an appropriate time. Referees are there to maintain discipline & fair play.
  • Control your temper, verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players or deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable.
  • Be a good sport, applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the opposition.
  • Treat all participants as you would like to be treated yourself. Do not bully or take advantage of another competitor.
  • Try to give your best effort at all times & play to win. Never give up against stronger opponents.
  • Be honest with the coach concerning illness & injury & ability to train & compete to the best of your ability.
  • Show respect to your team-mates & coach by being on time for training & games. If you are running late or are unable to attend  then inform the manager/coach in a timely manner. A respectful attitude relating to language, manner, temper & punctuality is to be adopted at all times.
  • Accept defeat with dignity. Show sportsmanship to fellow team-mates & the opposition. Congratulate the winners with good grace. Don’t blame the referee or anyone else.
  • Players will be fined $25 for every 3 yellow cards they receive & $50 for each red card they receive. Players will not be allowed to play again until the fines have been paid.
    • Suspended players will be required to assist with canteen during their suspension.
  • Any player who receives more than 6 yellow cards or more than 2 red cards in a season will also have to appear before the disciplinary committee & further fines or sanctions may be imposed depending on circumstances.
  • When one team is playing another team’s players will be expected to help with canteen or marshalling duties & vice versa.
  1. 3. PARENTS/GUARDIANS
  • Remember that children participate for their own enjoyment, not yours.
  • Encourage children to participate, do not force them.
  • Focus on your child’s efforts & performance rather than whether they win or lose.
  • Encourage children to play according to the rules & to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • Do not yell instructions at your child. Their coach has already given them game tactics & instructions.
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  • Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performance & skilful plays by all participants.
  • Respect official decisions & teach children to do likewise.
  • Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials & administrators. Without them your child could not participate.
  • For their safety, no juniors should be left at training or games without a parent, guardian or relative.
  1. 4. COACHES/OFFICIALS
  • Show concern & caution towards sick & injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or playing.
  • Ensure that everyone emphasizes fair play, rather than winning at all costs.
  • Remember you set an example. Your behavior & comments should be positive & supportive.
  • Be consistent, objective & courteous when making decisions dealing with players & spectators.
  • Condemn unsporting behavior & promote respect for all opponents.
  • Be a good sport yourself, actions speak louder than words.
  • Place the safety & welfare of all participants above all else.
  • Operate within the rules & spirit of the game & teach your players to do the same.
  • Help each person reach their potential – respect the talent, developmental stage & goals of each person & compliment & encourage with positive supportive feedback.
  • Conduct your responsibilities with honesty, due care, competence & diligence.
  • Do not allow prejudice, conflict of interest or bias to affect your objectivity.
  • It is the coaches responsibility to pick the team line-up each week & run substitutions during a game. Werrington has a policy of giving all players a fair go with regards to playing time. However punctuality & attendance records for games & training will also be taken into account.
  1. 5. SPECTATORS
  • Show respect to your team’s & opponent’s performances & efforts of all people.
  • Encourage players to follow the rules & official’s decisions.
  • Do not use foul language, sledge or harass players, coaches, officials or fellow spectators.
  1. 6. APPLY TO ALL
  • Respect the rights, dignity & worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  • Werrington promotes an environment free of any type of anti-social behaviour.
  • Werrington promotes a safe car park area to ensure protection of families & their children. Anyone who drives recklessly or dangerously will be asked to leave & the police shall be notified.
  • Display control, respect & professionalism to all involved. This includes opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, parents & spectators. Encourage others to do the same.
  • No alcohol is to be brought onto the premises as it is private land with a licenced club. Alcohol may be purchased at canteen as long as it is consumed in a responsible manner & not within 10 metres of playing field. If you disobey you will be kindly asked to leave the premises by a club official.
  • Play within the rules & spirit of the game, promoting fair play over winning at any cost.
  • Reject the use of violence in any form, whether it is by spectators, coaches, officials or players.
  • Abusive behaviour, both verbal & physical will not be tolerated & will result in your expulsion from the club.
  • Any disputes between players, coaches, officials & parents shall be dealt with by Werrington’s committee. If you have a complaint direct it to a committee member.
  • Werrington is a small club & expects all it’s members to do what they can in supporting each other in terms of sideline support & helping with the day to day activities on game day as well as supporting  any social functions & fundraising activities.
  • Players, parents, coaches & officials of Werrington FC will all be expected to volunteer their time to help the club with activities such as canteen duty, BBQ duty & team marshal duty. Let’s not leave all the work to only a handful of people.
  • Please dispose of all rubbish in the bins provided.
